Cons: Online co-op play cannot load your personal character unless you are the host; unable to change facial structure; map structure does not always flow smoothly; gathering experience points difficult within fights
I have to be honest; when I heard that Fable 2 was coming out, I wasn’t too excited after the let downs of the first Fable. The only thing that excited me was the ability to fart in a room full of people; perhaps it was just the kid in me that likes fart jokes...I don’t know. So by the grace of god or Santa, I received this game as a gift for the holidays. Well, since it was free, I thought "What the hell, I’ll check it out." Surprisingly, I have very few complaints about this game other than its addictive qualities.
The game starts off with your character as a child, with your sister by your side, trying to take care of you while living on the streets. At this segment of the game, there really isn’t any freedom other than following your sister, although you are introduced to a few characters that you will see later on in your adult years. On my second game play, I realized you could fart as a child in the game! Oh me and my childish humor. So I highly recommend farting; love it!
The graphics are simple and sweet, getting the point across. The zoom views are very lacking however; there is no View 1 or View 2 option, so you must hold down the left trigger to see up close and when you let go; poof - you can't see again. While you may not to be able to visually enjoy the detail of the game, the variety of characters are more than enough to make up for it. It is literally a Sims game within a game. You can rent, own, sell property and even decorate it. People can love you, hate you and fear you. You can view other characters' personality traits and likes. People are also bi, gay and straight. What does that mean, you say? More people to have sex with! I always end up reviewing games that you can have sex in. Maybe I have a problem. Fair warning though: not only can you get - or get someone else - pregnant within the game; you can also get STDs, so wrap your sexy parts up!
The way you level up in Fable 2 is not a clear-cut system of dispersing points after reaching a certain level of points, but rather when you fight - depending upon what method you use - you gain more points within that field (magic, melee or ranged weapons). While this system is nice in the aspect that if you really like just using magic, for example, you can level up quickly, you must be swift about gathering your points of the ground or you lose them. This can be difficult to do when you are fighting several people at once and don't have time to stop and gather your points. This brings me to the fighting sequences; while the point gather sucks, the fighting in this game is unbelievably fluid and smooth. Fable 2 manages to balance between normal game play right into a fight scene without skipping a beat.
So, if you enjoy farting, having sex, taking people home from bars and getting tattooed, Fable 2 is for you! You can do all of those things while sitting at home in your pj’s, or you can be like Dwight from The Office and live a second life. Just remember the addictive nature that comes along with the Sims-like quality of the game; days can pass and you won't even notice while you’re sucked into this game. That said, I need to go have sex with my wife in Oakfeild now. Play this game!
