Is it because the kids today are doing 80s drugs that they dress real funny and listen to bands called NATALIE PORTMAN'S SHAVED HEAD? I’m getting a little bit over the kids today and their obsession with bands that rip off The B-52s and The Faint while wearing ironic 80s fashions. Christ, the whole thing is a nightmare, even if the kids in NPSD are all allegedly under 20. Don’t get me started on the whole ironic animal thing. It’s enough to make a guy go Falling Down.

There are a couple hooky moments here, but the whole thing comes off like a date-raping version of New Kids on the Block with a token female or a hetero- Scissor Sisters. There is the odd guitar part here and there, but most of the stuff here is programmed beats and synths super-glued to the DX-7 setting. If their persona wasn’t so damn annoying, they might actually get some respect, but they are so ridiculously hipster-oriented that they are undoubtebly this year’s Fannypack or Northern State.

Dumb name, ironic clothing, a title called Glistening Pleasure. Everything about this bands presentation makes me pray for Fall when no one will care anymore. A starring role as a major label tax deduction definitely beckons for these kids, as does a solo career for the female singer. She has a cool kind of Pat Benatar vibe about her that is promising for a career down the line, but there is nothing about this band that has any staying power whatsoever.

Digg!
