Assassin's Creed PS3 - Ubi Soft
Pros: Great story line, interesting menu interface, stealth is king, Veronica Mars does a voice, and unbelievable interactive world. Cons: Some camera angles are awkward, transitions can be a little glitchy at points, and the controls weren’t that forgiving in combat. |
Assassin’s Creed is a very interesting world within a world game concept that Ubi Soft took to a new level. The overall “cyber concept” mixed in with this old-world Middle East during the Crusades took this idea to a new level. If you want to own something that has extended replay value and will have you drooling over backgrounds, this is the one to own.
The overall plot of the game is having the player go through as an assassin for a non-descript Middle Eastern sect during the crusades. It actually feels nice to be on the other side of this after 12 years of Catholic school! The story line drives, and the visuals only enhance this experience. Although I think the guy you do “jobs” for can be annoying at points and I just wanted to get stealth on him.
Environments are something next gen consoles have been trying to work on being interactive and beautiful. This game, for being one of the first next gen games, does the most impressive job I have seen yet. You can use hay piles, curtains and crowds to get your secret activity on like never seen before. When you “alert” the enemies, it’s great to just run around, out of sight, trying to find the next thing to hide behind or inside of. Some things work better than others, so don’t be trying to hide behind the fat lady in the market.
The interface and menus in this game are very interesting as they relate to different life and stamina gauges. I think they did a great graphic job on how everything is integrated and how you can view the maps and mission objectives. It made it very easy to flip in and out of menu modes without loosing your general feel of game play.
One place this game falls short is on the controls and some visual glitches. The visual glitches can mostly be attributed to the developers getting too ambitious with the environments. So sometimes I can let that go, but it is still annoying. The controls can also be a bit distracting when you try to lock on a target. I felt like I was swinging my sword into empty space half the time. They could have gotten this part a bit more fluid but they do make up on this when you do get that perfect targeting and actually strike an opponent into a combo. Combos - although quick - are lovely.
Assassin’s Creed packs a punch in every aspect. Environments are beautifully rendered and completely interactive. The storyline drives and makes you want to keep playing. Kristen Bell does a voice, which just rocks. And this game, from the gates, did a good job in showing what next gen consoles are all about. Let’s hope they use a lot of what they learned here for the next game in the Splinter Cell series and Beyond Good and Evil. Fingers crossed...

| I loved this game. But the thing that bothered me was the combat. Dodge, finsher, dodge, finisher. Got kinda boring. But I still finished it and your rating is fair. One of the biggest WTF endings ever though. If this is just the first game, I can't wait to see what they have in store for the story and the gamplay.

| | Graphics are awesome!
This game starts out with max potential of one of the best "Freeworld" games around.. Leaping from high towers is fascinating!!! However, advance into other sections / levels of the game and face redundant objectives and tedious game play and find yourself headed to a high tower to take a leap off yourself, game disc in-hand..
I'm not one to walk away from a game, but fuck this game! If you bought this game, sell it on eBay and come back here and buy yourself a Burning Angel DVD and get your money worth on smoking hot BA girls and killer fuck scenes!
Now let's get a discussion going about real games like Grand Theft Auto 4 or Call of Duty 4..
