The Icarus Line

JOANNA: Whats your name and what do you do in The Icarus Line?

JOE: My names Joe.

JOANNA: And what do you do?

JOE: I sing and write the songs.

JOANNA: How long have you guys been a band?

JOE: Approximately four years full time. Were fucking professionals. We dont have to get jobs now. We get to run around the world like little assholes, burn down venues and destroy equipment.

JOANNA: Do you guys tour a lot?

JOE: Yeah, weve been everywhere that a touring rock band could go. Australia, Japan, Europe, all of the United States, Canada, South America.

JOANNA: Do you go to strip clubs while youre on the road?

JOE: We sometimes go for breakfast. Like if they offer a breakfast or a lunch, well stop by.

JOANNA: Did you ever get like, a prostitute or anything while you were in Amsterdam?

JOE: Myself, no, but some of the other members have.

JOANNA: Why didnt you want to get one?

JOE: Because I was fucked up on mushrooms at the time, and thats not really the right state of mind to get a prostitute. I bought an eighth so I was swimming in the subconscious for a while.

JOANNA: Do you watch a lot of porn?

JOE: The only pornos I actually enjoy are Max Hardcore. Are you familiar?

JOANNA: Yeah, I am.

JOE: Yeah hes from my hometown.

JOANNA: What do you like about them?

JOE: Its just extreme, and I can relate really well to extreme emotions. And its kinda funny, more humorous than others.

JOANNA: So you dont really watch it to get off?

JOE: Not really. It doesnt really get me off sexually. Sometimes Ill put it on to entertain guests.

JOANNA: Like if your family comes over for dinner or something.

JOE: Yeah, whatever. Whoevers over, just for the spectacle of the situation maybe.

JOANNA: So what do you write your lyrics about?

JOE: Thats a tough one. Im really influenced by Charles Bukowski, stuff that I could always relate to as a kid which helps me to write about real life. Charles Bukowskis a Los Angeles writer so I can relate to a lot of the locations he writes about. I guess his frame of mind is pretty close to what Ive developed over the years, just because hes an alienated individual. He drinks. He has a love hate relationship with women. Ultimately he is in love with some of them even if he doesnt know how to fully be in love.

JOANNA: So what is the band working on now?

JOE: Were writing our full-length right now, which will pretty much redefine modern Rock N' Roll.

JOANNA: And what label are you signing to?

JOE: V2.

JOANNA: And what were you on before?

JOE: Nothing. We toured the entire world on our own merit. Its really rare these days that a band could tour the world on a record that was barely released.

JOANNA: So do you have any sex stories from tour that you could tell?

JOE: Well, we tried to get these two girls to like lick my asshole on video one time, but that didnt exactly work out.

JOANNA: They werent into it?

JOE: No. Not really.

JOANNA: Was it the video part or the asshole part that you think stopped them?

JOE: It was more like, they were that close to doing it. Like their faces were right there, but then it just didnt happen. My stories with women on the road arent really that exciting at all. Theyre just kinda depressing.

JOANNA: Well maybe now that youre on major label youll have some exciting stories to talk about.

JOE: Hopefully.
