Hey all
alright well I finally have a quasi free day today- so I am checking in with everyone. it was a little silly to have kept a blog entry about a dance booking from like 3 weeks ago being cancelled up for so long... I think you all get the point. It was canceled! End of story.
As you know my life is a bit of a whirlwind sometimes. Things happen, people and places come and go and I don't get the chance to write about them. In the past few weeks I went to Indiana and partied with Misti Dawn and Phoenix for the BurningAngel valentines day hoe-down. I had a great time- everyone there was really nice. I spend a lot of time in New York, and Los Angeles... and Las Vegas on occasion... where people just don't get THAT excited to see porn stars. I think there is a certain code of conduct in those cities- like... if you see someone "famous" at all... you're not supposed to act excited or else your friends will think you are a total loser. Well this rule certainly doesn't exist in Evansville, Indiana and people seemed so genuinely excited to meet me... it felt quite good.
The next day I went to Yale University and spoke on a panel with Tristan Taormino and Sasha Gray. After the panel I went to a frat-boy kinda college party at a bar in Connecticut called Toads- and i found the whole thing really humorous.Pardon the stereotype- but when I was told I'd be hosting a party at Yale- I thought it would basically be a bunch of people playing chess. I sure was wrong! This was a big spring break style party in the middle of the winter in Connecticut- where people were wasted, and dancing to techno remixes of "you belong to me" by Taylor Swift- some of them even wove around glow sticks. I don't know if anyone at the party really cared at all about me, or BurningAngel... but the college kids sure got excited when I yelled out sexual profanities from the microphone.
Now last but not least is quite possibly one of the most exciting things to have ever happened to me. Shortly after the last time I updated my blog in Pittsburgh (2/6/10)- I had a crazy night! See- I went to Pittsburgh to dance at Blush.. and then I got stuck in a big snowstorm and the club shut down... so I was basically just stuck in Pittsburgh.[[ That part you probably already knew since that blog entry was up for about 3 weeks- but incase you didn't I am bringing you up to speed]]
There were only 2 restaurants open in the entire city. Mitch was with me on this adventure because my usual roadie Brian Street Team was busy for the weekend. Mitch and I decided to just go out and try to eat a nice meal at one out of the two restaurants open and enjoy the night. So we went to the restaurant. Of course, it was ridiculously packed... so I had to wait a while for a table. While I waited i ordered a few drinks at the bar- and the same guy insisted on paying for them. I went over to him and talked to him for a little bit. It turned out he had come into the club the night before to see me dance and was stuck in sort of the same position I was in. He was from LA and couldn't get out of Pittsburgh. I asked him what he did for a living and he said he was an actor- I asked him if he was in anything I would know he said "maybe" and then changed the subject. He was really really nice and it was killing me because I couldn't figure out where I knew him from.
Mitch and I sat and ate- afterwe were done eating we walked by the bar again and then a group of guys flagged me down saying "are you Joanna Angel." I said yes. They told me they were in a band called The Friday Night Boys who I had never heard of but they told me they had a show in the area that was canceled- and planned on going from the show to come see me dance.... and were really dissappointed! They asked if Mitch and I wanted to have some drinks with them, and we agreed. We had a few shots and then the mysterious actor had come to the bar again because he had just finished his dinner. I invited him to hang out with my new posse of friends who were all stuck in Pittsburgh for various reasons.
We had many many drinks- and after about 15 various different types of shots- in my drunken stupor- it came to me. I yelled OH MY GOD YOU WERE ANGELA'S DAD ON MY SO CALLED LIFE!!! I don't know if you watched My So Called Life but- it was basically a cult classic at the time. I watched every episode. I was pretty sure at one point in my life that I was Angela... Me and the guys in the band asked him various questions- mostly about why he disapproved of Jordan Catalano so vehemently. He told us that he thought Brian Cracow was a much better match.
Anyways- his real name is Tom Irwin and he has actually been on a lot of shows- mostly as a main character's dad or brother. He is actually quite handsome for an older guy and acts very much in real life as he does on camera. His voice is really soothing and he smiles a lot.
At a certain point, I had had way too many shots. I asked Angela's dad to walk me back to my hotel room... feeling very trusting of him that he would make sure nothing bad would happen to me. Fortunately- he was a total gentleman -and didn't try anything funny on me... but looking back on it... maybe it was not the smartest idea to let an older man I just met walk me to my hotel room when I was so drunk to the point I could barely walk. At that moment- just really felt like he was my good friend's dad.
Embarrassingly enough- I puked in the bathroom for about 3 hours straight and felt like if I just had some more time I could continue. I called the airport and of course my plane was the only flight that had not been canceled or delayed. It was the only time in my life I actually was praying for some kind of mishap to happen at the airport. I threw my stuff together and went to the airport feeling like death. Angela's dad should have really known better and not have let me drink so many different kinds of shots! What an awful father. No wonder why he got taken off the air.
Anyways- it was one of the most fun nights I've had. I would have never thought my freshman year in high school that the guy who played a dad on my favorite TV show would be jerking off to movies I would be in 12 years later.
Sorry this blog entry has no photos- I'm feeling lazy. photo-less blog entry is better than no blog entry at all!
