Well I was recently on G4 TV - I was sent to Quake Con to cover it. Here is what aired.
So here is the little clip on G4TV from Quake Con!
Well here is some stuff from my own personal collection.
So G4TV asked me to go to Quake Con with them. Quake Con is basically a big geek gathering where thousands of people come and play the game Quake against each other. Its a first person shooter computer game. What was most interesting about the convention was not the game quake itself- but it was these customized computers everyone made- known in the geek world as "moded" computers. Since Quake is a computer game- everyone comes with their own computers- and they totally pimp them out for the occasion. I will admit- when Blair Herter from G4TV told me that everyone was going to have their own customized computers- I honestly thought that people would have like.... intricate uh... sticker patterns? Or some kind of crazy cases? Maybe the more flamboyant geeks would have them bedazzled? But yeah- I was very wrong! People actually build their own computers from scratch- the inside and outside. Here are some of the most interesting one I saw.
Now here is a computer that someone made to look like the spaceship from the Galaga arcade game. It was all solid wood- you definitely could not carry this on an airplane. I met the guy who made it- and I wanted to take a sexy photo with him but he told me he was 17- and there is something really creepy/illegal about me having suggestive photos with a 17 year old on my blog.
and here is the back of it.
Now this computer didn't have quite as interesting of an exterior as the Galaga one did but it looked super cool on the inside. The guy who created it was not underage so I took a picture with him. Unfortunately- I don't know his name.
Alright so- that thing I am leaning on- well.... that's not a toy that I got from a McDonalds Happy Meal- that's a fucking computer there- made out of legos! This one had to be my favorite one. I asked him how he built a computer out of a toy that was flammable plastic and he said it had all sorts of different fans on the inside keeping it cool. It was pretty neat. Anyways, here it is along with the creator of it.
Now this was the most bad ass computer technologically I had ever seen. It is actually four different computers stacked on top of each other. I don't remember what they were all for- I know one was computer games, one was music and movies.... and I don't know what the other two were. There are all sorts of temperature controls and shit on the front and uh.... I don't know. Yeah- well here it is.
This creation was so amazing, I thought it warranted a sexier photo.
I thought this one was kinda interesting. It was like all inside this creepy looking suitcase thing. It sorta looks like the case I keep my makeup in.
Here is what it looked like on the inside -
Later on I found the guy who made the super bad ass computer so I took a picture with him. I should probably cut and paste this and move it up the blog where the other photos of the bad ass computer are- but quite frankly I am pretty lazy.
This one I really liked too- it's a computer mod on a budget! In this days economy if you wanna be a geek you gotta do shit like this. This was by far the most punk-rock computer mod in the convention. I could not find the creator- maybe he was too punk to be by his own computer.
Here is another cool computer I saw that kinda looked like it should be at a cyber-goth rave- with it's creator.
And here is a Super Mario Mod!
Here is me- and Blair Herter - the one of the hosts for G4TV who co-hosted the piece with me- and Corrado - the camera guy. I really enjoyed hanging out with these boys. We went out the night before the convention and got wasted. We went to some random bar and I flirted with old Texan women, and then I think I told the boys my life story. Man. I can never run for president now... they have all sorts of dirt on me. But regardless it was so much fun. The piece airs on Thursday- August 19th. Be sure to look out for it!

| Nicely done. Very Creative and clever how people make their own computer hard drives through various ways. I usually help build Arcade sticks for Game systems, so I doubt I could do something like this. haha -D. posted: 08.27.09 12:02 AM | |

| Man, computers are cheap in the US. That $2000 machine would have cost at least ?3000 to make over here. That's more or less $5000. I wish i could afford to build my own rig. posted: 08.24.09 04:46 PM | |
