I always try to think open mined but last night was a clear example that you can't always do that!
John Szeluga (http://profile. myspace. com/index. cfm?fuseaction=user. viewprofile&friendid=408319) was doing his comedy skit at the show I was performing in was a complete racist, (he said that himself) and did this whole racist comedy act on stage that was insulting and not even funny.
He went AFTER I performed and started off by saying,"Any racist people in the crowd?" A good amount of people in the audienced clapped! Mind you I'm on Staten Island no where to go if these racist audience people attack us! This made my mom, bf and other Black people in the audience VERY uncomfortable! Then his last lil joke said, ""because anytime you see a beautiful black woman she is really a MAN" AFTER I just performed.
I've heard plenty of Black jokes, funny ones and they were never down graded Black people. I'm not touchy about the whole Black jokes shit either, so you know it was a big deal if it bothered me. This dick started off by saying he was a RACIST! That doesn't rub me the right way, that is not a good thing to start off a skit with.
Also the most important thing is that my GUEST felt totally uncomfortable and unsafe!
I felt it was very insulting on my behalf because he knew I would be performing there, it is on the flyer, I'm the only Black girl on the flyer. He should have know it was a dumb skit to do even if NO Black people were in the crowd he knew that would have insulted ME!
I wish he would have said that shit in my neck of the woods. He would have got the RACIST beat down he should've gotten last night.
I totally felt disrespected and I didn't even perform my second gig because of that (and the fact that I had to leave early in the morning). So I left and only got half of my pay!
So a BIG FUCK YOU to John Szeluga, the self-called Racist MAN!
